German Design Award 2018
TYROLIT Life has thrilled the international jury of the German Design Awards for the second consecutive year with its products for everyday life – earning accolades not once, but twice. Two of our products have earned the distinction of “Winner”: the TYROLIT Life Fly Wheel Cut Knife and the second generation knife sharpener, the MK-2 Wood. Last year, the first generation of the knife sharpener impressed the jury and received the “Special Mention” distinction.
Initiated in 2012, the German Design Award is one of the most recognized design competitions worldwide and enjoys a high reputation far beyond the professional circles. The international premium prize of the German Design Council has set itself the goal of discovering, presenting and awarding unique design trends. Every year, top-class submissions from product and communication design are awarded, all of which are pioneering in their own way in the international design landscape. This year, the jury evaluated over 5,000 submissions and awarded the winners with the Gold, Winner and Special Mention awards.
Cut and Sharpness to Perfection
The award-winning products from TYROLIT Life are impressive: Each of the Fly Wheel Cut knives is crafted in 64 steps in collaboration with the Tyrolean tool expert Stubai, distinguished by its exceptional cutting performance, sophisticated design, and mere weight of 155 grams
Not only the expert jury is enthusiastic about the TYROLIT Life knives, but also chef Steve Karlsch, Brasserie Colette Tim Raue: “For me, the TYROLIT Life knives are the perfect mix of Japanese filigree and European robustness, I like the design and the great sharpness.”
The MK-2 knife sharpener delivers the desired cutting power. With its preset angle and two ceramic sharpening stones of varying grits, it ensures perfect sharpening results through an easy and secure handling process. Its clear design aesthetic and the handmade ceramic grinding stones from Tyrol turn it into a standout feature in any kitchen.
