6 reasons why you should buy the Darkline Knife Series
The special black coating that characterizes all knives of the Darkline series ensures low resistance and high glideability. This significantly reduces the adhesion of the cut material.
Each individual knife is carefully polished after the final sharpening and inspected by a master craftsman. Only then is it released for sale. Thus, this Tyrolit Life product guarantees consistent quality in every piece.
Stainless, martensitic, high-end stainless chrome steel (60 HRC) with special alloy additives provides a high degree of hardness due to a special microstructure.
Your knife thus meets the same high requirements as, for example, precision tools or surgical instruments.
2. Reason – The hardening process
The deformability of the steel is significantly reduced by vacuum hardening at up to 1050°C and subsequent nitrogen overpressure cooling. After this extreme temperature treatment, the blade is carefully heated again.
This so-called “tempering” guarantees the exact degree of hardness and optimal flexibility. The kitchen knives of the Darkline knife series have a hardness of 60 HRC, which is similar to that of the damask knives.
3. Reason – The cut
In the grinding workshop, the blade blanks are initially ground using special grinding stones under heavy cooling, before being polished in multiple grinding stages and their edges smoothed. The final precise sharpening is accomplished using exceptionally hard CBN grinding discs.
4. Reason – The coating
The black coating was adopted from the tool industry. It ensures an extraordinarily high sliding ability when cutting and gives the knife its unique look.
Reason 5 – The handle
The patented Micarta handle fits perfectly in the hand and impressively complements the black blade. The handle scales are made from pre-shaped Micarta and are three-dimensionally milled on a multi-axis CNC machine.
They acquire their ergonomic form through meticulous manual grinding and polishing, before being hermetically sealed and permanently bonded to the steel.
6. Reason – Engraving & finishing
The contour of the knife is finely polished, creating a noble interplay between the high-gloss metal and the jet-black blade.
All edges of the knife – except for the cutting edge – are rounded. The laser engraving remains visible for a lifetime.

The Darkline knife series is made from non-rusting, martensitic, high-end stainless chrome steel with special alloy additives. This delivers immense hardness, flexibility, and edge retention, making it the ideal material for tools and components with very high demands, such as knife blades or cutting surgical instruments. A hardness level of 60 HRC (Rockwell Hardness) is achieved thanks to the special microstructure.
How do I clean the knife properly?
The kitchen knives from the Darkline series should be cleaned immediately after use with warm soapy water without harsh detergents and dried off with a soft cloth.
To protect the user, it is advisable to always dry the knife along the spine of the blade using a cloth. Bacteria transferred from the cut items to the blade can attack the surface of the knife steel, gradually diminishing its quality and hardness.
Cleaning the knives in the dishwasher is not recommended because the high temperatures and dishwasher detergents can damage the handle and decrease the blade steel’s hardness.
What material is the handle made of?
The handle is made of Micarta, representing one of the highest quality plastics due to its exceptional durability and resistance. The patented, ergonomic handle also prevents the risk of calluses due to its design.
What is the special Teflon coating for?
The special coating of the blade ensures excellent glide.
How do I sharpen my knife?
The knives from the Darkline series can be sharpened with the Tyrolit Life knife sharpeners, as well as with any other standard knife sharpeners. Our whetstones and the sharpeners integrated into the cutting boards and knife blocks are ideal.
For storage and transport of the knife, use the included magnetic leather protector. It protects the blade from damage and reduces the risk of injury.
