product facts

Experience a completely new sensation when cutting. The high-quality Fly Wheel Cut is manufactured by TYROLIT LIFE in close collaboration with the Tyrolean tool expert Stubai. The name derives from the so-called flywheel cut, which can be performed effortlessly and instinctively with this knife.

The high and long blade of this knife, crafted through 64 manufacturing steps, reduces the risk of injury with proper finger positioning and allows for fast, even, and effortless cutting. While the thumb and index finger stabilize the end of the blade, the tip of the knife remains on the cutting board. The hand simply follows the movement of the knife like a flywheel, ensuring a clean cut. See more kitchen knives from the Darkline series.

the material

Stainless, martensitic, high-end chrome steel (60 HRC) with special alloy additives provides a high degree of hardness through its unique microstructure. Your knife meets the same high standards as those required for precision tools or surgical instruments.

the Hardening Process

The malleability of the steel is significantly reduced through vacuum hardening at up to 1050°C followed by a nitrogen pressurized cooling. After this extreme temperature treatment, the blade is carefully reheated. This process, known as "tempering," ensures the precise hardness and optimal flexibility.

the grind

In the grinding shop, the blade blanks are initially ground with special [grinding stones](https://www.tyrolitlife.com/schleifstein/) under strong cooling. After this, the blades are polished and the edges are ground down in several grinding processes. The final refinement is achieved with particularly hard CBN grinding wheels.

The Coating

The black coating, borrowed from the tool industry, provides exceptionally high glide during cutting and gives the knife its unique appearance.

the handle

The handle scales are pre-fabricated from Micarta and then three-dimensionally machined on a multi-axis CNC machine. Their ergonomic shape is achieved through careful manual grinding and polishing before being air-tight pressed and permanently bonded to the steel.

The Engraving & Final Refinement

The contour of the knife is finely polished, creating the distinctive effect of the luxurious interplay between the high-gloss metal and the deep black blade. All edges of the knife, except for the cutting edge, are rounded. The laser engraving remains visible throughout the knife's lifetime. Each individual knife is meticulously polished and inspected by the master after the final refinement. Only then is it released for sale. This ensures that each TYROLIT LIFE product maintains consistent quality.
