Application

The TYROLIT LIFE whetstone is suitable for grinding and sharpening standard tools, e.g. hoes, shovels, spades, sickles, scythes, pruning shears and garden shears, axes. The stones can be used wet or dry, although wet use produces significantly better results.

What are the advantages of a scythe whetstone?

In the garden, hobby and DIY sector, sharp tools make work easier. Garden tools in particular quickly become blunt as a result of tasks such as hedge trimming and digging. Blunt spades, blades and shears make gardening a chore and require a lot of strength. So by regularly sharpening your tools with a whetstone, you are doing yourself a favour. At the same time, your garden plants will benefit, because pruning always means cutting into the health of the plants. If you have sharpened your shears, axe and other tools with a whetstone, you will leave straight cut edges when trimming the hedge. As a rule, these heal faster and no complications arise. If, on the other hand, you use blunt garden tools, the work is not only more strenuous, but you often leave jagged edges. These slow down the healing process of the garden plants and make it particularly easy for pests and fungi to enter the plants.

How often should a scythe whetstone be used?

How often you need to sharpen your tools and garden equipment depends on their condition. If you use a spade and axe on hard garden soil, such work as digging will do little for the sharpness of your tools. But even sandy soil, due to the individual grains of sand, causes rapid abrasion, so that your equipment will blunt after a short time. However, the general rule is: if you use your garden equipment regularly, it will stay sharp longer. If, on the other hand, you have not used the tools for a long time, it is advisable to sharpen them with a whetstone before using them again. This procedure is also recommended if shears and hoes have been used improperly and the blades have therefore also become blunt. Use a whetstone to sharpen knives, scissors, scythes, axes or spades, and the Tyrolit Life whetstone will serve you well. It can be used wet or dry and delivers razor-sharp edges and blades in just a few simple steps.
